Reallocating Expert Resources Reduces Publishing Costs

The director at a national association was concerned with the staff time used to produce the section's member newsletter.

Staff experts were dedicating valuable hours to the newsletter, and this was impacting their contribution to other content-specific projects.

The director wanted to "remove the content experts" from production and needed a production process that facilitated quick, basic copyediting and self-directed, professional layout. Additionally, the process needed to be integrated with the workflow of the internal print shop.

NICHEPUBS provided this.

The number of staff hours now dedicated to production has significantly declined. Essentially, zero hours are used during the initial layout of each issue, and those used for editorial review are kept to a minimum.

During production of a recent issue, files arrived on day 1, the first and subsequent proofs were submitted on day 2; and the final files were sent to the client's in-house printer on the start of day 4 (after final approval from all staff reviewers by the end of day 3).
